A topic that seems to come up more and more often is “will installing these parts void my factory warranty?” The simple answer is a resounding no. In a never ending quest to make more money, car dealers are now offering many of the same products as aftermarket companies such as Audio Designs and Custom Graphics. In 1974, congress passed the Magnuson-Moss Act to prohibit car manufacturers from voiding a vehicle warranty if a consumer has aftermarket parts installed. Here are the simple facts;
- Congress acted because car manufacturers stated that if you did not use their parts, they would void your warranty.
- This happened over forty years ago.
- Car dealers hope you never read this article.
- If you install substandard parts on your vehicle or have substandard work done to your vehicle, and it causes a problem, your warranty may be suspect.
