The owner of a local dog obedience school contacted Audio Designs and Custom Graphics in Jacksonville about a 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser wrap. He wanted something that would attract attention to his vehicle to advertise his company, called Dog Transformers. After discussing what we could offer and reviewing some of the projects we have completed in the past, we suggested a custom-tinted chrome wrap and a few lighting accessory upgrades as well. He loved our plan, so we scheduled an appointment for the installation.
Custom Green FJ Cruiser Wrap
The focus of the project was going to be a complete vehicle wrap in green Hexis Skintac HX30SCH04B Super Chrome. This high-gloss mirror-chrome wrap makes the truck look like we dipped it in a chrome bath and applied a translucent green finish.
To install the wrap, we disassembled parts of the vehicle. The lights, mirrors, roof rack, bumpers and door handles all came off so we could lay down the wrap under these components for a seamless look. We washed the vehicle to remove any dust or dirt, then wiped it down with a wax remover to prepare for the vinyl installation. We wrapped the mirrors and handles while they were off the vehicle so we could be 100% sure they would look amazing. Smaller, intricate components are more difficult to wrap, so having them on our bench helps us make them look perfect.
We used Avery Gloss Black vinyl for the roof wrap and the large scallop on the side of the vehicle that ties into the black accessories.
Custom Reflective Graphic
The client wanted to represent his company without turning the vehicle into a rolling billboard. He supplied us with his company logo – a bulldog created in a design similar to the Autobot and Decepticon logo. We printed the logo on reflective vinyl, similar to what we use on emergency vehicles. When lights hit the logo at night, it will reflect the light and show up nice and bright.
Lighting Upgrades
To tie into the green theme, we installed a set of RGB halo rings in the factory headlights. This process involves taking the assemblies apart, using an oven to soften the adhesive. We have done this for many of our clients, and the results are quite amazing.
There is a large LED light bar across the roof of the truck and a second, smaller one in the custom front bumper. We removed the light bars and disassembled them on our workbench. We copied the glass lens to a piece of transparent green acrylic plastic and then re-assembled the lights. Now, they throw an intense green beam of light when turned on. A set of LED light cubes on the rear bumper is wired up as reverse lights and received the same green treatment.
The last step in the lighting upgrade process was to install a set of RGB LED-illuminated wheel rings. These metal rings mount to the front steering knuckle and rear hub so they move with the wheel and tire. The RGB rings include red, green and blue LEDs, and are controlled by the same module as the headlights. We set the controller to default to green, but the client can change them any time he wants.
Window Tint
While we had the truck at the shop, the client asked us to tint the windows for him to extend the green-and-black look of the vehicle. We used a dark tint to make it look as dramatic as possible. We added a dark-tinted eyebrow to the windshield to help block the sun.
Custom Toyota Fj Cruiser
The client returned after a few days to pick up his truck. He loved the transformation and could not believe how shiny the green chrome FJ Cruiser wrap looked. We gave him a tour of the vehicle and explained how to care for the wrap to keep it looking like new.
