Tesla Model 3 Color Change Wrap

A client recently contacted Audio Designs and Custom Graphics in Jacksonville about installing a color-change wrap on his 2018 Tesla Model 3. We met with the client to discuss how he wanted to change the appearance of his vehicle and to look at different color options. After inspecting several swatches, the client chose a bright red for his car, and we scheduled an appointment to perform the installation.

By removing part of the car before wrapping we are able to achieve phenomenal results.

We started the project by thoroughly washing and decontaminating the vehicle’s paint surface to ensure that the wrap would adhere securely. We went over the paint with a clay bar and special lubricant to ensure there were no imperfections that would show up as bumps in the wrap. We removed all the emblems from the vehicle and wiped off any traces of adhesive.

Because our team has extensive experience in audio system upgrades, we were able to disassemble key components like the rearview mirrors, door handles, head and tail lights and bumpers without any fear of damaging clips or losing fasteners. Removing these elements was the only way to ensure that we would be able to cover every square inch of the vehicle so that none of the original white paint was visible.

The last step was to use a degreasing panel wipe to remove any oils or grease from the paint surface.

The new color was just what the client wanted.

The client chose a Gloss Dragon Fire Red vinyl from 3M. This metallic red vinyl from 3M is part of its 1080 series of vehicle wrap films. It features two color layers for excellent dimensional stability and consistent saturation when it’s stretched around curved surfaces. Our team applied the film to the vehicle, wrapping it deep into the door jambs to conceal the white paint.

Once the vehicle wrap was complete and we were sure that any air bubbles had been worked out from under the vinyl, we began the process of reassembling the vehicle. We double-checked all the lighting and mechanical systems to ensure that everything functioned flawlessly before bringing the vehicle out into the sun for a final inspection. Only once we knew everything was perfect did we call the client and let him know the install was done.
