Here at Audio Designs and Custom Graphics we love a challenge. Recently a customer came to us with a 2008 Mercedes C300 looking to set off the exterior some more. The subject of tinting the exterior lights came up. If you have ever seen the tail lights on a 2008 C300 you can see they are not flat at all. In fact, they have all kinds of interesting angles going on.
Lamin-X Gunsmoke Protects From “Road Rash”
We went over the different options for tinting the lenses and gave him the pros and cons of each. A decision was made and an installation appointment was set up. For the headlights, fog lights, and front marker lights we used Lamin-X Gunsmoke. This is a film that is lighter, which still allows good light output. It also acts as a protective barrier for the lenses to help them resist road rash and pitting from objects that fly up when driving.
Lamin-X Provides a “Black Out” Effect
For the side view mirrors and tail lights we used the Charcoal for a blackout look. This provided the same protection as the film used for the front lenses. As you will see from the pictures the finished product looks like it came from the factory that way. Many shops have resorted to using a translucent paint to do their lenses as they can’t get the film to lay down perfectly like we accomplished in this car. Lamin-X actually rates the rear tail lights on this car as 5 out of 5 for difficulty.
Harder But Better!
We chose to take the harder route for a multitude of reasons.
- First, the film can be removed and the car looks completely stock again. Try doing that with painted lenses.
- Second, the film is not going to chip off or scratch easily like paint.
- Third, as we mentioned before, it also acts as a protective barrier for the lenses.
So in our opinion it is the best option. And that is the only way we know how to do things at Audio Designs and Custom Graphics. Here is a video of the finished product that we think you will like.
Finally, we invite you to stop by our store and show us your ride. We would love the opportunity to get to know you and explore options to make your vehicle uniquely your own.
