Lamborghini Gallardo Stereo System Upgrade for Jacksonville Client

A client from Jacksonville recently dropped into Audio Designs and Custom Graphics to inquire about upgrading his 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo stereo system. The client loves the way the car looks and drives but wanted to update the features and performance of the entertainment system. After looking at several source units and auditioning a few different speakers, we put together a proposal to update this exotic with state-of-art performance.

This 2007 Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder was in dire need of a source unit upgrade. We showed the client the Sony XAV-AX100 receiver and demonstrated how the modern smartphone integration technologies like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto make it easy and safe to use. The Sony features styling that blends nicely with the sophisticated interior of the Gallardo and is free of unnecessary flashy lights or chrome accents.

We created a custom mounting kit for the radio using expanded PVC plastic and our CNC router. The kit mounts the radio into the factory dash location and holds the radio securely. If you are upgrading the radio in a Gallardo, we have made this mounting kit available on our website.

Seeing out the rear window of any Lamborghini is tricky. As this is a Spyder, the challenge is even more difficult. We mounted an Echomaster backup camera just above the rear tag to make parking and maneuvering this wide beast easier and safer. The camera image appears automatically on the Sony source unit as soon as the transmission is in reverse.

Upgrading the Lamborghini Gallardo Stereo with New Speakers

Custom machined expanded PVC adapters were created to mount the speakers.

The factory speakers in the Gallardo are now 10 years old. Since speakers don’t last forever, we installed a set of Sony GS-Series XS-GS1621C component speakers. We mounted the tweeters from the component set in the factory location behind the door release handle. Using this location was optimal as it meant we didn’t have to make any modifications to the interior of the vehicle.

We mounted the 6.5-inch woofers from the set in the factory location at the bottom of the door using a set of custom-machined expanded PVC adapters. Plastic adapters can handle the humidity we experience here in Jacksonville and won’t swell or deform if they get wet when it rains or when he washes the vehicle. We designed the mounting adapters to move the speakers closer to the door panel to improve off-axis high-frequency performance. The speaker adapters are available on our website as well.

Sony Stereo System Amplifier

An impressive 5.0-liter V10 that produces more than 500 horsepower powers this Gallardo. With the engine located behind the driver and tuned with a low-restriction exhaust system, the Gallardo screams when accelerating. A Sony XM-S400D compact four-channel amplifier ensures that this sound system upgrade remains audible, even when the happy pedal is all the way to the floor.

Our installation team configured the amplifier to drive the woofers and the tweeters separately. This configuration gives us complete control over the level of each speaker in the car to create an overall system balance that is smooth and natural.

With the system installed and configured, it was time to turn this Lamborghini Gallardo stereo upgrade project back over to the owner. He liked the custom dash kit we made and was impressed with how easy the new Sony source unit was to operate. The stereo sounds much better and plays a lot louder than the factory system. As an added touch, we created custom decals to update the worn badges on his OEM keyfobs.
