Each new day brings amazing challenges and opportunities here at Audio Designs & Custom Graphics. We have customers who come to us from all over Florida. Recently, a new customer from right here in Jacksonville asked about upgrading his 2014 Toyota Tacoma four-door audio system.
System Design Consultation
As with all of our customers, we started the process with a meeting to better understand his goals for the system. It became apparent that he wanted great sound in his truck, but didn’t wish to alter the appearance too much. This is a common request and, thanks to our training and experience, something that we can deliver with impressive results.
Factory Integration For A Stealth Look
After speaking with the customer and looking at various options, we decided to keep the factory source unit in the truck. It had all the features he needed, and it left room in his budget for more focus on the subwoofer system.
The new system is powered by a pair of compact Hertz amplifiers. We mounted a Hertz HCP 4D amplifier under the driver’s seat. We installed an HCP 1D subwoofer amplifier in the same location on the passenger side of the vehicle. The four-channel amp powers two pairs of Hertz speakers. The front doors are home to a set of DSK 165.3 component speakers and we mounted a set of acoustically matching DXC165.3 coaxial speakers in the rear doors. Toyota uses oval speakers in the factory system, so we created a set of custom speaker-mounting adapters out of expanded PVC that allowed the 6-1/2” components to fit securely. We included FAST foam rings to seal the speakers against the factory door panels.
Amazing Audiomobile Subwoofer Enclosure
This customer wanted excellent bass response from his new system. Three criteria had to be considered to achieve this goal: a quality amplifier, a well-designed enclosure and great subwoofers. Hertz amplifiers produce lots of clean power for whatever speakers we connect to them. We chose a pair of Audiomobile GTS Series 2110 subwoofers for this system. These subwoofers provide tight, musical bass from minuscule enclosures. Finally, we constructed a vented Stack Fab-style enclosure that spans the entire rear of the truck interior. We bonded more than 60 custom cut layers of premium MDF together to create an extremely stable enclosure. The design includes internal bracing and a large vent for improved low-frequency output and efficiency. We removed the plastic panels from the back of the rear seats to further improve the bass response in the vehicle.
Extensive Time Was Spent Tuning This Toyota Tacoma Four-Door Audio System For Maximum Performance
Our standard process here at Audio Designs and Custom Graphics is to complete each installation with our detailed system-tuning process and, subsequently, a comprehensive listening test. The process includes using an oscilloscope and Distortion Detector to confirm that each amplifier is configured correctly for maximum system performance and reliability.

This customer was thrilled with the results! The system plays loud and remains clear and detailed, even at high volume levels. The customer loved that the whole system was invisible from the outside of the vehicle.
