iPad in Dash is one of our favorite parts to build! Audio Designs and Custom Graphics has the best clients. We get to build incredible audio systems for their cars, trucks, motorcycles and boats. We fabricate amazing subwoofer enclosures and cool-looking amps racks that blow our customers’ minds. A relatively new option has been to install an iPad in dash or center console. Let’s look at why this is such a great option for a source unit.
Easy-to-use Interface
There is an undeniable level of coolness associated with having an iPad installed in your dash. The large display and easy-to-use interface is intuitive and blazingly fast – you can get to your music in mere seconds, with one or two taps on the screen. Because it’s an iPad, it can do so much more than just play music. You can stream audio from Pandora, Radio, Slacker, Spotify or TuneIn Radio. You can also watch YouTube or check in on Facebook the second you arrive at your destination. All you need is a cellular-equipped iPad or data-sharing to your cellular phone.
Seamless Integration
We can connect your iPad to an amplifier to create an audio system that operates independently of the factory radio. Even high-resolution audio file playback is an option for the sound-quality aficionado. If you want something a bit more unique, we could install a Sony radio beneath or behind the iPad and use its App Remote to control all the functions of the radio. This solution gives you easy access to the tuner, CD and USB sources from the screen of the iPad.
Navigation with an iPad couldn’t be easier. You have access to Google Maps, Apple Maps or the incredible Waze application. You and your fellow Waze users can share real-time traffic flow information. You will know what time you will arrive at your destination, right down to the minute. Searching for Points of Interest (POI) is easy – you have the entire Internet at your disposal – and you can see where you are going with Google Street View before you even leave your driveway.
It Looks Like It Belongs
Using our CNC router, we can fabricate a custom housing for your iPad, then integrate that into your dash. If necessary, we can relocate factory controls to make your iPad dream come true. Even if it doesn’t look like it, an iPad will fit, drop by and let’s discuss your options. If space is limited, then an iPhone 6 or 6 Plus is another option that offers the same unique and amazing results.
iPad In-Dash Integration Costs Less Than You Think
One question that keeps customers from asking about iPad integration is the cost. While custom work is never free, the cost of purchasing and installing a multimedia head unit with navigation is similar to that of iPad integration – and there are advantages. With an iPad, you never need to purchase map updates again. The data in Google, Maps Waze and Apple Maps are always up to date. That represents another $100 to $150 in your pocket after a few years. Software updates for your iPad and all your applications are quick and easy to do. If you don’t have a cellular data connection, you can update your iPad by bringing it into your office or home and use the Internet connection there. As soon as you reach your destination, all you have to do is slide the iPad out of the dash. It will be charged up and ready for a lecture, luncheon or meeting.
We use only the best-quality materials to ensure that your iPad is held securely in the dash. Because Audio Designs and Custom Graphics has our own in-house hydro-dipping machine, we can replicate any finish you can dream of – wood grain and carbon fiber are very common requests.
If you are looking for a source unit solution that is easy to use and unique, then drop by Audio Designs and Custom Graphics today. We can look at your vehicle, evaluate how you want to use your iPad and provide a no-obligation quote on a custom dash mount right away. Contact us here for more information.

Niranjan says
Two questions:
– Does it void car’s warranty (and/or purchased extended warranty)?
– Can you fit this in Toyota Highlander 2016?
Darren Fettik says
Nope! Sure doesn’t void the factory warranty. There’s actually a federal law (magnussum moss act) that doesn’t allow aftermarket parts to void your factory warranty. Voiding factory warranties is actually a myth and any dealership that tells you that is lying to try to sell your their parts or have it subcontracted through them. Included is a link for more information.
Can you email us a picture of your Highlander’s dash? AudioDesigns75@gmail.com
