A client from Southeast Georgia contacted us here at Audio Designs and Custom Graphics in Jacksonville about a custom Ford F150 vehicle wrap. The client owns a real estate company that sells agricultural land, hunting tracts, farms and homes. He wanted to give his work truck a personalized look that would make him instantly recognizable to existing and prospective clients.
Design Process
We discussed several options for the wrap graphics with the client. He wanted the truck to be a rolling billboard without looking tacky or gaudy. The forest scene we agreed on matches the services his company offers while making the truck really pop!
We got to work modeling the artwork on onto our vehicle template. Based on the size and shape of the image, we decided that a half-wrap would suit this application best. A half-wrap goes halfway up the vehicle. In this case, it stops in line with the top of the fender and upper edge of the truck bed. Rather than leave the edge hard, we applied a gentle fade to the graphic so it blends into the hood, A-pillar and C-pillar.
With the graphic ready, we added some lettering to provide more information to anyone that would see the vehicle on the road. As we worked through the design process, the client was sent renderings for comment or approval. Once we had the look and feel nailed down, we scheduled an appointment to begin the installation.
Premium Vehicle Graphics Solution
We own one of the widest graphics printers in the Jacksonville area. Our 64-inch wide printer allows us to create custom graphics for large commercial vehicles without the need for seams. We loaded the printer with a roll of white 3M print wrap film and let the printer go to work. As each piece comes out of our Mutoh VJ-1624X printer, it passes through an integrated heater to help set and cure the ink. We give the wrap a little extra time to set up before we load it into our lamination machine. The lamination machine bonds a layer of clear vinyl over the graphics to add durability and enhanced UV resistance.
Vehicle Installation
In preparation, we started the Ford F150 vehicle wrap by washing the truck, then wiping it down with a special wax and degreaser. As the truck was new, we didn’t need to do much else. Older vehicles often require a quick once-over with a clay bar to remove any debris stuck to the paint. We removed the lights and door handles next. Removing these items allows us to wrap underneath them for a seamless look. No factory paint is visible around these items. In the case of the door handles, we printed several small portions of the master graphic and wrapped each part individually.
Custom Vinyl Lettering
With the wrap installed on the vehicle, the next step was to add some custom lettering with the client’s company information. We cut the lettering from white vinyl and added a bright green border to make it really stand out. The rear side windows, rear windows and the sides of the bed all received lettering.
Ford F150 Vehicle Wrap Delivery
With the vehicle wrap complete, we took the truck outside to ensure everything was aligned perfectly. The heat from the sun will highlight any air bubbles or inadequately secured seams. In this case, the truck looked great and we didn’t have to touch anything up.
The client returned to pick up his vehicle and was thrilled with how it turned out. The bright green foliage in the image really attracts attention. Moreover, the scene is relaxing and inviting – the perfect messages for his real estate company. We reviewed how to care for the wrap with the client and let him know that we were here if he had any questions or concerns.
