The owner of this Dodge Dart recently dropped into Audio Designs and Custom Graphics in Jacksonville to inquire about upgrading the stereo with new speakers, amplifiers and a custom subwoofer enclosure. After inspecting the vehicle and talking to the client about how he wanted to be able to listen to his music, our product specialist put together a quote to create a custom audio system that would sound great.
Dodge Door Speaker Upgrade
We started the project by replacing the front door speakers with a component set from Kenwood. The KFC-X6902C components include a pair of woofers, a pair of tweeters and a set of passive crossover networks. Our team mounted the woofers in the doors and the tweeters in the factory speaker locations in the corners of the dash. We upgraded the rear doors with a set of Sony XS-GS6921 coaxials.
Hertz Car Audio Amplifiers
The sound system in the Dart is powered by a pair of Hertz Compact Power Series amplifiers. A four-channel HCP 4D delivers up to 85 watts to each of the door speakers while a beefy HCP 1DK powers the system subwoofers with 1,000 watts. We mounted the amplifiers on the backs of the rear seats and bundled all the wiring using automotive-grade fleece tape for a clean and tidy appearance.
Dodge Dart Subwoofer Enclosure
Our team created one of our Phantom Fit subwoofer enclosures in the spare tire well of the trunk. The enclosure is home to a pair of Audiomobile Evo 10 subwoofers that fire down into the bottom the well. The enclosure sides are constructed using stacked layers of MDF that we cut on our CNC router. The woofers are mounted to a panel that is raised off the floor to allow adequate room for the subwoofer cones to move, even at high volume levels. The output of the subs enters the trunk thanks to an opening at the back of the enclosure.
We finished the enclosure in a durable gray trunk-liner style carpet that matches the side panels and floor of the trunk. Once installed, the false floor trim fits back in place perfectly and you can’t tell we’ve made any changes to the vehicle.
As with all of our Phantom Fit solutions, you can purchase this enclosure from our website.
Jacksonville’s Car Audio Upgrade Experts
With the amplifiers connected to the stock radio and the crossovers and level controls set, it was time for the client to return to Audio Designs and Custom Graphics to pick up the vehicle. The client was blown away by the clarity of the speakers and the output from the subwoofer system. If you are interested in upgrading the stereo in your vehicle, drop by our store or send our team an e-mail using our contact form.

As always, very nice and informative article! It’d be awesome if you could write one article about having two subwoofers in one single box, do they have to share the same box or it’s better to separate them? Thank you very much!
